Q: Thia FAQ from my factory-built fireplace Manufacturer says: "Can I burn unvented logs in my woodburning fireplace? No. Doing so will void the warranty on your fireplace and possibly void your homeowners insurance. An unvented gas log set that complies with the ANSI Z21.60 standard as a vented gas log set can be used as long as the damper is removed from the unit, but any other type of unvented log set will cause hazardous conditions." What should I do?
A: You should follow the manufacturer's instructions. All of our Chillbuster sets are also certified to ANSI Z21.60 Vented Decorative Products.
Heatilator and their parent company, Hearth & Home Technologies, have had a religious zeal against vent-free products. Several years ago a standards change allowed fireplace manufacturers to place such a warning against vent-free use, even though their fireplaces, if they truly complied with the testing requirements of UL-127 fireplace standard, are subjected to much more intense heat during testing than would ever be achieved through use of a vent-free gas log set with the damper closed.
