Q: Can I add a rear infrared rotisserie burner to my Solaire that did not have one?
A: Unfortunately, no. The Solaire grills that were made without the Rear Infrared Rotisserie Burner cannot be later retrofitted with it. The burner and supporting panel, rear hood, control panel and plumbing used in the grills made with the rear burner are integral to the design and cannot be adapted to a grill we made first without the rear burner.
You can use the Rotisserie Kit specific to your size grill (includes motor, spit rod, forks, counter-weight) with the your grill (I do so with my IRBQ-42 to do turkeys and other food). The accessory BBQ Tray is needed for use with the rotisserie to catch the drippings and to convert IR energy to convected heat while rotisserie and indirect cooking (see video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNDhXMCyGfc)
On Page 10 of Great Grilling Simplified http://solairegasgrills.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Solaire-Great-Grilling-Simplified.pdf we offer a technique for using the rotisserie on an IRBQ. Please also view http://solaireinfrared.blogspot.com/2010/04/turkey-on-solaire-infrared.html and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orypTyXsYbo&list=FLCHPrpdOGVrmJiAlSm0VFcQ for additional information on using your IRBQ to rotisserie grill.
