                                Applicable codes commonly require the log-lighter/fireplace gas shutoff valve to be located outside the firebox but within reach.

                                An additional valve may sometimes be installed inside the fireplace for convenience, but an inside-only shutoff can create a safety problem if a fire or leak makes the firebox inaccessible.

                                Installation must comply with current applicable codes and be performed or verified by a qualified gas professional.
