A burner can show adequate static pressure and still be underfired if the gas-supply path cannot deliver the required volume at the burner’s rated input.

For example, in one CS48 installation, a 1/2-inch gas line at 7 inches water column had roughly 120,000 BTU/hour of capacity, while the CS48 is rated at 175,000 BTU/hour. Increasing the measured pressure did not correct the poor flame distribution. The recommended fix was either to increase the line and any restrictions to 3/4 inch, or to select a burner within the 1/2-inch line’s capacity.

For any installation, a qualified gas professional should compare the specific burner input with the capacity of the complete gas-supply path, including pipe size and restrictive valves. Do not apply the example’s capacities without checking the actual installation conditions.
